Cactus Trail of Cuauhtémoc

This excursion is a good ramble into some rolling hills near Cuauhtémoc de Rojas. The state of Oaxaca is reputed to contain the world’s largest variety of cacti, yet these desert plants are generally lacking on most of our hikes in and around the Valles Centrales. This outing is a notable exception. You will see hundreds of cacti studding the rough hillsides in this area. The terrain is rough and rocky, so sturdy shoes and a hiking pole are recommended. After our hike we will stop for lunch at any of several comedores in Tule on our way back to Oaxaca.

Time frame: 8:30 depart Llano Park / 9:45 arrive trailhead / 11:15 turnaround point / 1:00 return to vans / 1:30 lunch stop in Tule / 2:15 reboard vans / 3:15 return to Oaxaca
