San Miguel del Valle – More Information

Most of our hikes in the Sierra Norte mountains north of Oaxaca take place in the Pueblos Mancomunados. The territory belonging to San Miguel del Valle borders on the Pueblos Mancomunados, and features the same kind of lush forest and high country scenery. There are some awesome views from the mirador at elevations near 10,000 feet looking out over the Tlacolula valley. We will trek along a loop trail covering about 2 miles. Hikers should be prepared for cooler temperatures and the possibility of fog and drizzle in the cloud forest.

Pedimento / Mirador Trail – 1.8 mile (2.9 km) loop on footpath in heavy woods; initial climb is steep, but not very long; shrine at top of hill at 10,197 ft elevation; mirador is in open area at 9784 ft. elevation with wonderful view of the Tlacolula valley to the west.

Time frame:8:30 depart Llano Park / 9:45 stop in San Miguel to pay fees & pick up guides / 10:45 arrive trailhead & begin hike / 12:00 sack lunch at mirador / 12:30 begin walk back to trailhead  /  2:00 drop guides in San Miguel  /  3:00 return to Lending Library.
